Oh, beautiful, magical Fujifilm X100. You will always hold a special place in my heart.
After much deliberation, I decided to upgrade from the awesome Fuji X100 to the slightly-even-more-awesome, just-as-magical Fuji X100S. The main reason for this - photographer nerd alert - is that I had what is called 'banding' issues, with visible streaks running across images at ISO greater than 800, which just made certain situations incredibly frustrating to photograph... and almost completely ruined some shots.
I'd heard that the X100S had lost some of the magic of the original X100, but, I actually found the opposite - this thing is actually every bit as good (and then some) as the original X100. Even though it looks the exact same it is faster, smoother, slicker, and has better handling than the X100, and of course it goes without saying that the JPEG images are just as stunning as always. To me, it's a little box of heaven. It just feels... right.
I'll likely be taking this camera with me everywhere I go and it would take something very, VERY special for me to ever part with it. That being said, the X100 is still a great camera - especially for the prices that used ones go for on eBay.
The original X100 will always be special to me - the camera that introduced me to the Fuji X series, and something that completely changed my photography.
Goodbye, old friend.
